New Zealand Unveils Provisional 15-man T20 World Cup Squad with Captain Kane Williamson.

Kane Williamson to captain T20 World Cup 2024 squad for New Zealand with Devon Conway declared fit

Devon Conway has been named to New Zealand’s provisional 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, with Kane Williamson serving as the captain. Ben Sears will be the designated 16th traveling reserve for the team. The squad includes veterans Tim Southee and Trent Boult, with Rachin Ravindra and Matt Henry being the only players who have not previously participated in a T20 World Cup.

Conway, who recently suffered an injury during his stint in the Indian Premier League (IPL), is returning to international cricket after missing out on New Zealand’s last two T20I series. Williamson, who missed the team’s previous two T20I series due to his childbirth and IPL commitments, is back as the leader of the team. Fast bowler Adam Milne is currently unavailable due to an ankle surgery, while Kyle Jamieson is still recovering from a stress fracture in his lower back.

The squad also features Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Daryl Mitchell, Jimmy Neesham, Glenn Phillips, Mitchell Santner, and Ish Sodhi. Gary Stead, New Zealand coach, is confident that this team has selected players who can adapt to varying conditions in the West Indies where the tournament will be held. He praised Matt Henry’s hard work and Rachin Ravindra’s impressive performance over the past year. He also highlighted Daryl Mitchell’s recovery from a back injury and Michael Bracewell’s inclusion in the squad along with Mark Chapman and James Neesham from their recent tour of Pakistan. Overall Stead believes that New Zealand’s squad for the T20 World Cup is well-rounded and ready to compete at a high level.
